How to plan your day so your memories are captured beautifully and stress-free.

Your wedding day will go by in a blur—but the right photo timeline ensures all the most meaningful moments are captured with intention and calm. I work closely with my couples (and your planner, if you have one) to design a flow that feels natural, unhurried, and true to you.

Below is a general guide to how a full day of photo coverage typically looks. Yours might vary depending on coverage hours, travel between locations, or whether you do a first look—but this will give you a strong starting point!

Sample 8-Hour Photography Timeline:

12:00 PM – Getting Ready Begins

I’ll arrive to capture flat lays, detail shots (rings, invites, accessories), and those sweet, candid moments of you getting ready with your people.

1:30 PM – Getting Dressed + Portraits Begin

This is when we photograph the final touches—slipping into your dress/suit, helping each other with accessories, emotional reactions, and a few solo portraits.

2:00 PM – First Look + Couple Portraits

If you're doing a first look, we’ll capture the big reveal and then flow right into some relaxed couple portraits. This is often a calm, joy-filled pocket of the day.

2:45 PM – Wedding Party Portraits

Group photos with your wedding party while everyone’s looking fresh! We keep it fun and efficient.

3:30 PM – Hide Away + Ceremony Prep

You take a moment to breathe, freshen up, and reset before walking down the aisle.

4:30 PM – Ceremony Begins

We capture it all—tears, laughs, reactions, and your first kiss as a married couple.

5:00 PM – Family Portraits

Right after the ceremony is the best time for formal family groupings. Everyone is present, emotions are high, and it gives us a structured moment to capture those important connections.

5:30 PM – Cocktail Hour / Couple Takes a Breather

Once family photos are wrapped up, you can either enjoy cocktail hour or take a moment together away from the crowd. Meanwhile, I’ll be capturing reception details, guest candids, and those organic in-between moments.

6:00 PM – Reception Begins

Entrances, toasts, first dances—this is when the party comes to life.

7:00 PM – Golden Hour Portraits

If the light cooperates, we sneak out for 10–15 minutes of couple portraits during golden hour. These are often the dreamiest photos of the whole day.

8:00 PM – Open Dancing + Candid Moments

The dance floor opens and the rest of the night unfolds organically. I’ll capture movement, emotion, and all the little in-between moments.

A Few Tips to Keep in Mind:

  • • Add buffer time. Things always run a little behind. We’ll build cushion so you never feel rushed.
  • • First looks = timeline flexibility. Doing a first look gives us way more room for photos and relaxation pre-ceremony.
  • • Less locations = more moments. The less we travel, the more time you spend soaking in your day.
  • • Let go. The most magical photos happen when you’re fully present—I’ll take care of the rest.

This is just the starting framework—every wedding is unique, and I’ll help you build a timeline that reflects your priorities and energy. Want to chat through ideas or customize your timeline? I’ve got you.
