Your wedding details tell the story of your day. Here’s what to set aside for beautiful, cohesive flat lay photos that feel like a true reflection of your style.
Before the day truly begins, I take a few quiet minutes to photograph your details. Those small, meaningful items that help tell the full story. Flat lays are more than just pretty photos — they're heirloom-style snapshots of your design, your style, and the love in the little things. Here's how to prepare for them.
What to Gather for Your Flat Lay Kit
- 1. Your invitation suite.
- Include at least one full set: invite, RSVP, details card, envelopes, stamps, wax seals. Bonus: send me a copy ahead of time if you have one.
- 2. Rings (all of them!).
- Engagement ring plus both wedding bands. Put them together in a ring box or small pouch so they don't get separated on the morning of.
- 3. Shoes.
- Whether they're bejeweled stilettos or custom sneakers, they're part of your look and they deserve their own moment.
- 4. Perfume or cologne.
- Signature scents add a personal, editorial touch to your flat lay and evoke a powerful memory when you see the photos years later.
- 5. Florals.
- Ask your florist for a few loose blooms, sprigs of greenery, or trimmings. These tie in your wedding color palette and elevate the whole composition.
- 6. Jewelry & accessories.
- Earrings, cufflinks, a watch, tie clip, bracelet, anything you're wearing or carrying that feels special. If it's part of your look, it belongs in the flat lay.
- 7. Heirlooms or keepsakes.
- Love letters, handkerchiefs, pins, charms, anything with sentimental value. These are often the details couples say they're most glad they photographed.
- 8. Ring box.
- A velvet or custom box photographs beautifully, and serves as a safe place to store your rings before the ceremony.
Setting these pieces aside before the day gives me everything I need to create elevated, thoughtful detail images that feel just as intentional as the rest of your gallery. On the morning of your wedding, keep everything together in one spot (an old shoebox can work great) so I can grab it and get to work without needing to track you down for anything.
