‍Timeless Romance NYC Engagement

Back in 2020, I had the privilege of capturing Ken and Anthony's engagement session in NYC. My connection with Ken goes back to our time in living in Redondo Beach, California, where we became friends during our 200 RYT yoga teacher training. Anthony, whose impressive portfolio includes iconic works like Rent, Star Trek: Discovery, and a multitude of films, TV shows, and theatre productions, greeted me with such kindness and warmth.

On an overcast morning, we started at a small indoor botanical garden, at odds with the concrete jungle awaiting us outside. We then roamed around the city, exploring its nooks and crannies, all bundled up in the January cold. While we had some loose ideas of locations to check out, where we ended up was much more organic. A boardwalk along the Hudson, reflections in shop windows, cuddling up on someone's doorstep (thanks strangers), or playing in front of some neon lights. That's the best way (in my humble opinion) to structure a shoot: have a loose, flexible plan as a fallback, but leave plenty of room for finding hidden gems as we go. If we make it to all the places on our list, great, but if we find something else on our own, even better.

I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the trust this requires. Ken and Anthony handed their story to someone showing up with cameras and a loose plan. Leaning into that uncertainty and letting things unfold takes real openness, and I'm so honored that they went there with me.
